Background
Ludlow 21 Food and Farming Group was set up following the inaugural Ludlow 21 meeting in 1999
with volunteer members from a variety of backgrounds. The group’s aim is to promote the use of
local food and drink as widely as possible.
In the first year we set up a farmers’ market, established a distinctive brand ‘Local to Ludlow’
and published a local food directory. Subsequent activities have included a programme of
Farm Tours, accreditation of local B&Bs, sale of compostable bags,
support to other farmers' markets and setting up a website to publicise our activities.
In 2008 grants from Awards for All and the Food Festival financed a cooking trailer
which we use in a project called 'easy peasy' to introduce young children to cooking skills.

The Local Produce Market runs throughout the year, with over 30 stalls selling a wide range

Castle Square in the centre of Ludlow on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
If you are interested in having a stall contact Tish Dockerty 01584 872043.
Forthcoming dates for 2010; August 26th, September 9th and 23rd, October 14th and 28th, November 11th and 25th, December 9th.
The Local Produce Market has been celebrating its10th anniversary
On July 8th there was a meal of local produce, including a fidget pie, for people who had supported the development of the market over the years.
Loyal to Ludlow certificates were presented to three stallholders who had been with the market since 2000 by Pam Aitken the current Mayoress. Recipients were
the Tudge family - producers of famous pork products
the Wendens of Old Sandlin who manage to have home-grown apples for sale almost all year
Billy Auger who grows a wide variety of soft fruits at Hopton Wafers
There was also music from Terry Tandler and his band and they finished off with a ceilidh. It was great to see people dancing with enthusiasm in Castle Square.
On July 22nd the big event was a cookery demonstration by Will Holland from La Becasse. He demonstrated delicious things to do with a free-range chicken using the 'Local to Ludlow' cooking trailer. He was joined by presenters from the BBC Countryfile team who were making a programme about the market. They also filmed interviews with several producers and Tish, our market manager. The programme will go out on August 29th.
