Greenpeace – Greenpeace campaigns on a range of environmental issues across the UK and the rest of the world, with a particular emphasis on direct action.
By buying direct from farmers at better prices, helping to strengthen their organisations and marketing their produce directly through their own one world shops and catalogues, Fairtrade offers consumers the opportunity to buy products which were bought on the basis of a fair trade.
Shropshire Fairtrade Coalition – a group of individuals, organisations and businesses from around Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin whose aim is to help promote Fairtrade. After a two year campaign Shropshire, including Telford & Wrekin, gained Fairtrade County status from the Fairtrade Foundation in 2007, and this was renewed in 2008 and again in 2011. Shropshire’s Fairtrade County status will be reviewed every two years. We work with towns to help them gain Fairtrade status and businesses and organisations who want to offer and support Fairtrade products.
New Economics Foundation – nef is an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being. They believe in economics as if people and the planet mattered and have pioneered campaigns like ‘Clone Town Britain’.
nef instigated the Sustainable Communities Bill which would have great benefit for Shropshire. A cross-party group of MPs, including Liberal Democrats, Labour, Conservative and Plaid Cymru first introduced the Bill to the House of Commons in March 2003. Before the 2005 General Election, almost 250 MPs signed a motion of support for the Bill and the parliamentary campaign to make the Sustainable Communities Bill law continues to gather strength.
Stretton Climate Care – Church Stretton charity helping people to become more energy efficient, save money and reduce their carbon emissions. Why? Basically because we’re a bit frightened about climate change; and although it’s governments, not individuals, who will have to do most about it we know we can all do a little.
