As Green Drinks on 21st August 2022 falls on a Sunday, our usual venue is closed. For this month only we are moving to the Rose & Crown. Meet from 7.30pm for drinks and chat about all things green!

South Shropshire Climate Action will be running ‘Climate Question Time’ on Sunday 10th July at the Green Festival, where festival goers can ask questions to a panel of local experts.  Different topics will be covered at different times throughout the day – see below for a full schedule.  Questions can be handed in at the South Shropshire Climate Action stall in advance, or just come along to a session and join in.

The Ludlow Green Festival is bouncing back with a bumper programme of free family activities. Opportunities abound for hands on educational fun, in keeping with the theme of saving our ailing planet.

Organised by Ludlow 21 the local environmental group for the town, there will be an opportunity for making bug hotels, help diagnose the planet’s ailing symptoms with ‘Dr. Green’, how to ‘Make a Pollinator Happy?’, hands on ceramic tile pressing with wildflowers, as well as making an alternative ‘Prom Dress’ with pupils from Ludlow School.

Other activities include ‘Climate Question Time’ in partnership with South Shropshire Climate Action where Festival goers will be able to put their questions to a panel of experts, such as ‘ I want to be warm at home, what’s the best way nowadays?’ and the ‘Soap Box’ which will be free for short public speeches in between the extensive live music acts line up. We also welcome ‘Planet Medic’ an engaging piece of theatre that will take place throughout the day as well as bushcraft walks which leave at midday, 2pm and 3pm. All this as well as 40 stalls of local environmental groups and businesses all in the Ludlow market square.

All this activity will be washed down with excellent local beer thanks to Ludlow Brewery bar and delicious local food including Japanese, Argentinian and Indian cuisine, pancakes and ice cream, as well tea and cake provided by Ludlow Guides. Not forgetting the Wigley Field Allotments being open for members of the public to peruse and local Islabikes offering rides with electric bicycles.

So absolutely something for everyone and a great day out for the family, with free activities and entertainment throughout the day.

Save Energy in your home!

A message from Lightfoot Enterprises:

Rising energy bills and the threat of climate change are both now emphasising the need for us all to make our homes more energy efficient.

Lightfoot Enterprises (Lightfoot) is a charity that for the last 15 years has been helping residents in Shropshire and Powys to use less energy in their homes.

We are currently able to offer home energy advice in South Shropshire due to some funding from Shropshire and Telford Community Energy. We can visit you in your home and then provide you with a bespoke written report outlining your options for making your home more energy efficient. The cost is just £35 or free if on low income.

Our service is supported by professionals and volunteers – so we are appealing for the following:

1)     Householders that would like to find out about using less energy in their home –to find out more, contact us on jeremy@lightfootenterprises.org if you are in South Shropshire.

2)     Volunteers to help us to deliver this service. Our volunteers visit residents in their homes to gather information about the property, which is then fed back to our team of experts to turn into a written report. We provide full training to our volunteers in this valuable role. We’re getting excited now the Green Festival, our annual flagship event, is only just over a month away! 2022 Ludlow Green Festival will take place in Castle Square on Sunday, 10^th July.  Its theme is C.P.R. (Climate, Planet, Recovery), Planet Earth is in need of urgent care and attention, its symptoms are becoming both increasingly self-evident and ever-harder to ignore. We welcome people of all ages to explore and learn about what is being done now, and what more could be done in the future to mitigate the effects of climate change.  There will be lots of family ‘hands-on’ activities, opportunities to quiz experts and seek advice from a multitude of  stalls and sources in a friendly enjoyable environment.
