We were deeply saddened to hear the news that Traidcraft PLC, the original fair trade pioneers, have gone in to administration after 40 years of championing trade justice. Many members of the Ludlow Fairtrade Town Group have been part of Traidcraft Plc since the very beginning, making their range of beautiful, ethical products available to the Ludlow community and spreading the important message about trade justice. To hear that Traidcraft Plc is no longer trading, is the end of an era. It is now up to us, along with organisations such as the Fairtrade Foundation, Transform Trade, World Fair Trade Organisation and others to continue Traidcraft’s life-changing work and build on the incredible legacy they have left. We can choose fairly traded products, stand up for the rights of small scale farmers, producers and artisans, and work together to make trade fair.
